PART 2. INTERVIEW

Q. Please introduce yourself and your current role at the company.

Ryu Soon Yeol,General Manager of POSCO MC MATERIALS
I am Ryu Soon Yeol, the General Manager of Production at POSCO MC MATERIALS.
Over the past 15 years, I have worked within the POSCO Group, mainly focusing on safety and environmental management. Currently, I oversee the entire production operations of needle coke at POSCO MC MATERIALS.

Kim Ji Young, Executive Director of ONMAKERS
Since the early 2000s, I have been actively engaged in the IT industry.
As a founding member of ONMAKERS established in 2008, I have contributed to the company’s growth from the very beginning.
Currently, I am responsible for overseeing the full cycle of government R&D projects, from strategy development and proposal writing to execution and performance management.

Q. Please introduce your company and department.

Ryu Soon Yeol,General Manager of POSCO MC MATERIALS
Our company’s core business areas include the production of needle coke, a key raw material for electric arc furnace electrodes; artificial graphite, used as an anode material for secondary batteries; and various other carbon materials such as raw materials for graphite blocks used in solar power and semiconductor industries.

Kim Ji Young, Executive Director of ONMAKERS
Our company provides services that support decision-making through data analysis, operational optimization, and efficiency prediction.
Based on an integrated service solution utilizing big data, we apply our technologies across a wide range of industries, including electric two-wheelers, manufacturing, automotive, and shipbuilding sectors.

Q. Could you introduce any projects you are currently working on that utilize virtual reality technology?

Ryu Soon Yeol,General Manager of POSCO MC MATERIALS
We have established a digital twin system for industrial wastewater treatment facilities, which are part of the core and integrated processes in the steelmaking industry.
Through this initiative, we have implemented and successfully demonstrated predictive maintenance technologies for real-time monitoring and operational optimization, as well as safety service technologies that automate hazardous field operations.

Kim Ji Young, Executive Director of ONMAKERS
We are delivering operational optimization and safety management services for wastewater treatment processes based on digital twin technology, utilizing advanced simulation and data analysis.
In addition, we are conducting performance and eco-friendliness validation for small- and medium-sized eco-friendly ships within a metaverse environment.
We are also developing a platform that enables intuitive design, simulation, and performance analysis of vehicles within a virtual environment.

Q. What possibilities will you be sharing at the upcoming META AI View Summit? Could you give us a sneak peek of your presentation?

Ryu Soon Yeol,General Manager of POSCO MC MATERIALS
Although the application of digital twin technology to wastewater treatment facilities has been virtually unprecedented, we have taken the lead in adopting it.
Our motivation was to enhance the efficiency and safety of operations that traditionally relied heavily on manual labor, ultimately contributing to the revitalization of the stagnating manufacturing environment.

Kim Ji Young, Executive Director of ONMAKERS
Virtual reality technology offers significant advantages by enabling tasks that are difficult to perform in the real world — due to safety risks, high costs, or lack of specialized personnel — to be carried out more efficiently, safely, and precisely in a virtual environment.
By applying such advanced technology to the wastewater treatment sector, where adoption has been minimal, we believe we can enhance operational efficiency and achieve meaningful cost reductions, thereby helping to revitalize the manufacturing industry.
